What's new to 2022

The 2022 Kia Sportage gets a handful of updates and changes, with the most notable being some new standard trim features. The EX trim now come standard with a panoramic sunroof while the LX Value Edition package is now optional with the LX trim. Other notable changes include the replacement of the "S" trim with the Nightfall Edition trim.

Performance

The Kia Sportage spreads two engine options across its four trims, providing spritely propulsion regardless of the engine selected. In its basic configuration, the Kia Sportage comes equipped with a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine that makes 181 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. This base engine works with a 6-speed automatic transmission while offering up a choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. If you're interested in more power behind the wheel, the new Kia Sportage makes a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine available. This more powerful engine provides drivers with 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. As with the base 2.4-liter engine, this more powerful turbocharged engine comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Technology

The new Kia Sportage leaves little to be desired in the tech realm thanks to a seriously impressive standard set of features. The base LX trim of the 2022 Kia Sportage comes equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, USB ports, and a 6-speaker audio system. If you're looking to add in some extra tech, then the optional EX Technology package might be of interest. The EX Technology package includes a navigation system, satellite radio, wireless smartphone charging, and a Harman Kardon premium 8-speaker audio system.

Interior Features

The Kia Sportage makes a long list of comfort and convenience features available across its four trims. The base LX trim comes with all the classic interior offerings you'd expect from a modern new Kia SUV. The LX includes cloth-trimmed seats, split/folding second-row seats, air conditioning, and a roomy rear cargo storage area. The Nightfall Edition makes a few changes, adding in a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power adjustable driver's seat, and faux leather upholstery. The EX trim improves things even more, adding in heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, a hands-free liftgate, and gloss black interior trim. It's also worth noting that the EX Technology package includes a host of things that aren't exactly technology-related. The EX Technology package also includes ventilated front seats, a power adjustable passenger seat, a heated steering wheel, and leather upholstery. The top-level SX Turbo trim focuses more on performance, but it does include a few nifty interior touches. The SX Turbo trim includes paddle shifters, a heated flat-bottom steering wheel, and all the features that come with the EX Technology package.

Exterior Features

The 2022 Kia Sportage makes it easy to get a sporty or uniquely stylish version thanks to a distinct trim lineup. The Nightfall Edition provides drivers with a bold design that features a gloss dark gray grille with piano black farming, roof rails, and side cladding. The Nightfall Edition also gains a host of other black accents. If you're looking from something with a sporty edge, then the SX Turbo might be for you. The SX Turbo comes with a powerful engine along with a sport-tuned suspension, 19-inch wheels, and larger front brakes. The SX Turbo trim also includes LED headlights.
