2022 Kia Sorento - Koons Kia of Woodbridge

The Kia Sorento is a sporty three-row SUV that offers up impressive power, robust tech, and plenty of nifty comfort and convenience features. If you're in the market for a new SUV that manages to cover all the essentials and then some, then the new Kia Sorento is a must consider. The 2022 Kia Sorento is a carryover from the 2021 model year, as the Kia Sorento was redesigned last year. The latest model year sees the addition of a Plug-in hybrid model but is otherwise a carryover. The new Kia Sorento offers up two engine options and eight trim options.

Performance

The Kia Sorento packs plenty of power under the hood thanks to two slick engines. The base engine that comes with the Kia Sorento is a 2.5-liter inline-4 that makes 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. This base engine pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission and offers up front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The 2022 Kia Sorento also offers drivers a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-4 engine that manages 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. This more powerful engine also utilizes an 8-speed automatic transmission while also offering up front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Higher trim levels allow for additional performance features to be had, like torque-vectoring and center locking rear differential.

Tech

The latest model year of the Kia Sorento leaves much to be desired in the technology realm thanks to a long list of standard and optional tech features. The base LX trim of the 2022 Kia Sorento comes equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, smartphone connectivity thanks to Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and 6 USB ports. Moving to the S trim level ensures immediate tech improvements. The Kia Sorento S trim replaces the 8-inch infotainment display with a 10.25-inch version that includes a navigation system. The Kia Sorento S trim also includes SiriusXM satellite radio and bumps the USB port number to eight. Tech features remain about the same with each trim level beyond the S trim until the SX Prestige. The SX Prestige makes a handful of changes, adding in a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a surround view monitor, wireless phone charging, and a Bose premium audio system. The top-level X-Line SX Prestige AWD trim comes with the same array of tech features as the SX Prestige.

Interior Features

Comfort features range, with nicer features coming with higher trim levels. That's not to say that the lower trim levels don't include a modern array of comfort and convenience features, though. The Kia Sorento LX trim includes cloth-trimmed seats, accent trim, seating for up to seven passengers, and rear air conditioning. The Kia Sorento S makes some noteworthy changes, which include replacing cloth seat trim with SynTex seating materials, adding a 10-way power adjustable driver's seat, adding heated front seats, and adding a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The S-Line S gains open pore wood graphic accent trim along with SynTex seating materials. The Kia Sorento EX touts even more impressive features, including dual-zone automatic climate control and auto up/down windows. The SX trim ups interior comfort by adding in second-row captain's chairs and metal texture accent trim. The SX Prestige lives up to its suave name by offering up a long list of comfort and convenience features. The SX Prestige includes heated front seats, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and genuine leather seat trim that's perforated and embossed. The top-level X-Line SX Prestige includes about the same set of interior features as the SX Prestige.

Safety

Wondering if the Kia Sorento skimps on technology because it offers up such an abundance of other features? Fear not, the Kia Sorento doesn't skimp in the safety realm, offering up a seriously impressive set of standard and optional driver assistance features to help boost driving confidence on Jefferson Davis Highway and beyond. The base set of driver assistance features that all trim levels at least come with includes forward collision avoidance assist, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, intelligent speed limit assist, driver attention warning with leading vehicle departure alert, rear view monitor with dynamic parking guidance, and rear occupant alert with ultrasonic sensors. The S trim gains additional driver assistance features, which includes parking distance warning (reverse), safe exit assist, and blind spot collision avoidance assist (parallel exit). The list gets even longer for the EX trim, which adds navigation-based smart cruise control (with stop/go), highway driving assist, driver attention warning with leading vehicle departure alert, and forward collision avoidance assist (junction turning).

Trim Overview

The Kia Sorento trim lineup is quite extensive, with options including some important sub-trim levels. The LX slots in as the base, tried-and-true trim option that includes all the classic equipment you'd expect while the S trim level features increased comfort and tech features. The X-Line trims are different due to their unique exterior 'X-Line' styling. The EX trim features increased interior features and driver assistance features while the SX touts even more tech, comfort, and driver assistance features. The SX Prestige trims are far and away the most lavishly equipped, coming with leather upholstery along with the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine.
